The series is a documentary that looks at the dawn of the comic book genre, its legacy and its ongoing cultural impact.
Included in the film are Stan Lee, Adam West, Lynda Carter, Pulitzer Prize winners Michael Chabon and Jules Feiffer, and interviews with the late Joe Simon (co-creator of Captain America) and Jerry Robinson (co-creator of the Joker).

The three episodes in Superheroes are:

"Truth, Justice, and the American Way" (1938-1958) – airs October 8
The episode looks at the rising popularity of superheroes creating jobs for writers and artists, and how the post WW2 patriotism affected the industry.

"Great Power, Great Responsibility" (1959-1977) – airs October 15
The 1960s creates a new breed of superheroes, inspired by atomic power and space-travel. Coupled with the emerging civil rights in America giving rise to black superheroes.

"A Hero Can Be Anyone" (1978-Present) – airs October 22
Showcasing the more recent development of the industry, such as Batman being overhauled as The Dark Knight, and Watchmen bringing sophistication to comics.

A DVD/Blu-ray is released October 15.
